IIFT GD/PI EXperience

I was already exhausted from IMT's GD/PI the previous day ....but neways got up early morning and the cab waala was right on time......reached IIFt at 9:00......said that at 9:10 they will start the proceedings ...though nothing started before 9:40 ( Indian Standard Time )....
At 9:40 started with the essay writing

Topic- "Global Warming- Challenges and responses"
Wrote whatever I knew, Ozone hole , kyoto, IPCC, carbon credit blah blah phateeeee

Neways staright after that went in for the GD. Before that I went in the washroom, when I came back to the GD room, I was walking to my seat very casually..... dekha sab serious hoke baithe hai, so saw that kisi kone mein already ek panelist aa chuka tha .......hehehe acha hua I didnt murmur nething....signed on a sheet, and the process starts...

The topic was- "Political Mandate in Recent Elections: Is there an emergence of an assertive electorate ?"
( Ye kya tha,,,,,pehle to sar ke upar se hi nikal gayaa ....phir socha calm down calm down baby,,,,,think ....and somehow connected and I guess connected gud enuf)....so everyone started with the 2 min intro to the topic....i was 7'th to speak ( Thank god, the 6 before me told som gud points which reinforced that i was on the right track on the topic )Then it was an open house discussion,,, pretty decent , everybody chipped in( ab 40 minute mein to koi naa chah ke bhi bol hi lega yaar ) I entered almost 9-10 times, with decent points ..When I was the moderator, I rang the bell and said that we have already discussed many issues on the national front, lets discuss on the interanational fronts as well. Neways khatam hua finally GD....then long time for PI...

Started with the 1'st guy in our group,,,then 2'nd then 3'rd and so on....
And jo bhi aa rahaa tha, everybody was saying , bus yaar WTO pe poocha, someone said bus Recession mein ghus gaye the yaar, someone mentioned stock markets pe hi hota rahaa,,,,,,wohh!!! Man!!!! is it a PI on economics????? I was bound to be screwed......( baksh do yaar, 4 saal engineering kari hai,,,jaan loge bache ki kya )

Neways my turn comes

1'st prof- A fair and handsome guy ( FH )

3'rd prof - looked like my old maths teacher ( T)

As I was enetring, S was leaving( Kya yaar, itni buri shakal bhi nahi hai sirji ), I guess he went to washroom, neways

M- Thank You sir

FH- So introduce urself to the board
M- Blah blah blah ( duniyabhar ki achi achi baatein about me )

FH- U have done ur engineering in Mechanical, then why IT?
M- Sir , I decided to go for a career in mgmt beforehand, so whatever best option I could get , I went for it, etc etc ..

T- Okay, tell me about globalization ?
( Kahi mere CV mein dikh gayaa hoga pakka )
M- told in length about opening of trade and cultural boundaries etc etc..
T- When did liberalisation start in India ?
M- In 90's, basically in 1992.
FH-Who was the finance minister then?
M- Dr Manmohan Singh
FH--smiling --- pakka naa?
( are bhai, stress dena chahte ho kya , main nahi hounga stressed )
M- yes sir I am sure.
( abhi tak S gaayab hai bhaio )

Now comes S...hehehe
S- Hello Indrajoy, so what do you know about derivatives?
M- Sir, I know this this this,,,and I honestly said that I have this much knowledge only, not beyond it.....( aage badne se pehle hi soch lena sir, kuch nahi bataa paaunga )
FH- Ohkay, Have u seen balance sheet ever?
M- Sir I have seen my company's BS which they publish it on intranet
S- Where do revenues fit in?
M- Sir most probably its in profit and loss account
S- most probably nahi , its in it for sure

T- So what effect will it be on India if we close down our economy today ? Is competition gud for us?
M- yes sir, but it has to be in check. Unrestarined competetition can lead to bad results like what happnd in recession
(oh my god,,, did I say recession)
Chalo thankfully recession pe gaye nahi

FH- S whats this book about?( The Kite Runner- Khalid Hosseini)
M- Its about a boy who repents his mistake in the past and pays back in some form

FH- What gud thing comes out of the story?
M- It shows that Its never too late for anything. You always have a chance to amend ur mistakes .

T- What all calls do you have ?
M- Sir , named few of them, saare nahi bole yaar

T-Which one will u join?
M- Sir When I was filling the form, I aimed for the top B schools and a general MBA. That was my first priority. And evry B school has an USP.Now secondly I want to concentrate on the second stage process at the B chools, so that I know whether I am capable to be a part of them. After that I will do individual research on each, and find the best option for me....

S- Okay Indrajoy, Thank you
M- Thank You sirs...

Hmmm,,,Thats it, ,,,,, kahi se sutte ki dukaan dhundi ( ye dilli hai mere yaar , smoking banned , so bahut mushkil se mili, then cae back to noida ......home sweet home )

IMT GD/PI Experience

Went in. I was really impressed by the infrastructure of the college. Good sports facilities ...( i was flattered by it )....went to 2'nd floor. got my docs checked. Then went in panel 6 . 2 madams and 1 sir ( who came almost at the end of the GD ). There were 4 Isha's in my group ...and mostly ppl with I in the starting of their names, probably one with J was was also there.Neways I picked one envelope , topic was
" The fall in share of agriculture in GDP is a sign of development "


We had a consent on the topic. Then 5 mins to think, then discussion. Initially for 2-3 mins it went haywire. I peaked in at a point but suddenly realized that my voice was bit high ...the panel stopped us and said begin again in a peaceful way. After that it was a decent enough GD with decent points ( ab 8 min mein 12 logo se aap kya expect karte ho , obviously its not a board room meeting, thoda to fish market banega hi naa, roadies nahi dekha kya bhai )

m2- What is your job profile?
me- 19 months CSC Noida as software developer.

S- Govt spends so much money on building an engineer, and moreso ur acads have been excellent, why u wasting ur four years of engineering ?
me- Sir, Its not only academics that I have learnt in NIT. It has given me my identity. My whole personality has been shaped by studying in a reputed institute. I have come across ppl from various backgrounds , so grooming etc etc.......so govt's money will never be a waste.

m1-What all calls do u have?
me- told some of them...( ab saare 12 ke 12 ginaa doon to wo pakka nahi lenge )

m2-Then which insti will u join?
me- Maam, my first priority right now is to do MBA from an esteemed B school. And keeping that in mind, I filled the forms for the top B schools of the country. And converting those calls are my second priority because I myself want to know whether I am capable enough to be a part of these insti's. After the interviews I have planned to do a research on the individual insti's and depending on suitability( fees etc ) will join.

S- Do you read business news in newspaper?
me- Sir, I read what interests me. And frankly speaking I skip those articles which I am unable to understand.

S- Give any 3 recent business or related news?
Me- SEBI putting 1 crore penalty for non transparency on companies, SATYAM fiasco explaining how shareholders will choose their own auditors later on, the interim budget .

m1- why is it called interim budget ?

me- Its a budget placed before main budget. maybe thats why.Then i Smile again( like it was a big phataaa)
m1- Even I think so...laughs.

SCMHRD GD/PI

Venue- ICC Pune
Time slot- 11:45 , 8/2/2009

Went in the auditorium. Got registered. was talking to my friends , SCM guys were also there, talking to us. A guy said then ,," does anyone smoke ? "...yes yes why not, so went for a smoke .....
neways went to fifth floor after a while. After 5 mins or so, went in for GD....Now the shocking part,,,only 4 PEOPLE IN THE GD....!!!! man!!! that too for 25 mins..........it was going to be fun........

It was a case study,, hypothetical names of 3 political leaders were given, and we wer to discuss on 3 traits that a political leader should have. There were 2 girls and 2 guys including me.I started the GD with how we should proceed by taking all the 3 names , their traits , then select the best 3 for current global scene. evryone got good , rather excellent amount to speak ....we even reached a consensus ( hehehe, never experienced a GD where consensus ever appeared even close )......Then again a different showtime...the mods actually didnt end there. They started asking do you people think that politicians are always corrupt??? They also asked us individually - what would you keep in mind if you become one ...i answered " I'll keep in mind that power doesnt corrupt me "( phataaaa, badaa waala )..

m- I am blah blah, working for blah blah, did my B tech from blah blah, then I pushed onto my achievements which actually becomes a strong USP for me most of the times.

p2-Okay so what did you do in < the achievement>
m-Told in length about it.

p1- It seems you are good with tech suff, then why MBA in these bad times ?
m- talked about specifically why I am doing MBA, and how will I be benifitted by it. Took an example and led to what I have planned for my career and how MBA would be a stepping stone for it.
(pretty convincing it was I guess )

p1-What specialization you are aiming for ?
(p2 looking into my CV then )
m- I am looking towards a general MBA , but I would like to focus on Markting. Honestly I may not know much technicalities about marketing but whatever I know, I'll share with you and why I think I'll fit into that.

p1- Okay, Have you faced any sudden shift in your life ?
m- I told about the change in responsibilities after I joined my organization,,,,blah blah...

p2- Indrajoy, its an unique name,,,,,what is its meaning?
m- SIr it doesnt have a meaning, its actually a combination of my parents name .

p2- Laughing ,,it means you have all the negtives of your parents combined in you
m- smiling, I take it as combination of all good that my parents have.

p1- Okay, Thank You Indrajoy

After that document verification and all...

Not a single qu on acads, not on work ex, not on GK....rather I'd say it was a free flowing discussion ....i enjoyed it .....And yah, SCM 1'st yr guys, you did an excellent management of the whole process,,,, keep it up..
